I happened to be scrounging round on the net looking at model boats, the way you do, when I came across this little beauty by Dumas- a kit called Osprey. There were no distributors in this country at the time so I emailed them in Tucson, Arizona to see if they would send me one. Of course they would, but I had to transfer the money by Western Union and at that time, I didn't realise about import taxes and the like- so a bit of an expensive job.
The kit has actual planks for the sides and bottom rather than sheet, and with an open cockpit this looks rather nice. I used the shaft and tube they supplied which had a weird thread and I wish I'd used a 4mm one as normal. The motor is a Graupner Eco 500 with six NiMH 3500mah cells and a 30mm brass prop provide by George Sitek. I have never run the battery down and she looks lovely just trickling around the lake on a sunny day.
I used George Turner 1:12 figures (now being sold as Adrian's Marine Figures) and Mac's Mouldings accessories to bring the model to life and this seems to create interest for passers by.
I named her 'Scoter' which is a kind of duck, and she is supposed to represent a New England fishing boat. I like her- and she is one of my favourites- two feet long and about ten inches beam she looks a bigger boat than she is. Dumas have discontinued this kit so I'm glad I got one when I did!
