Since I was a lad reading copies of Model maker and later Model Boats I have liked the old style cabin cruisers such as Aerokits and Yeoman models. When I was younger I just couldn't afford kits and certainly not radio. I had always been fascinated by a photo in Vic Smeed's book 'Power Model Boats' of a Yeoman Wavemaster and wanted one. A few years ago I saw one on Ebay and got into an unseemly bidding war and secured a tatty and worm-eaten example for which I paid far too much. What happens to us when we get on Ebay!?
The keel was de-laminating and she was full of holes and it is difficult with these jobs to know how far back to go. I installed the usual Graupner 700 and 2x3s Lipo's in parallel with an Elecronize 30amp esc. She goes beautifully and has been one of my most reliable sports boats. She sticks to the water like glue and is a fine testament to her designer Les Rowell. The design came out some time in the fifties and was a precursor to the Aerokits range. Had I waited a few months, I would have been able to buy a new, laser cut kit issued by IP Engineering for a few quid more than I paid for the worm eaten Ebay rescue! I might do that yet. I named my Wavemaster 'Widgeon'- another type of duck.
