I designed Wild Rose in order to instal a Cheddar steam plant I had. In fact I ended up building a 3'' diameter vertical centre flue boiler for her as well. She went very well with the Pelican engine and gas fired boiler, but she now has an electric installation and has been refitted as an electric launch.
The boat was designed using a DOS based design program called 'Plyboats' which enabled up to three chines to be incorporated. She was built using 1/16'' ply on 6mm frames with the external skeg/keel added on afterwards.
She was designed to displace 9lb which was what I estimated the boat, plant and radio would weigh with no extra ballast- I was pretty much spot on. She had a 2'' four bladed prop with steam but now has a smaller one of around 35mm to accommodate the lower torque and higher revs of electric power. See some video of Wild Rose on the video page.
